It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Mike. He was a wonderful husband, father, & the love of my life for almost 45 years. We followed his dreams, and colleagues, friends & fans allowed him to achieve a level of success we never imagined. He most valued his friends who meant everything. Although Mike was in very good health, he died peacefully in his sleep yesterday morning. Myself and our daughters are devastated but we will get through this with all your love for Mike that we are are basking in. Thank you. We couldn’t be prouder.. ~Janet

Michael James Henderson (Mike), 70, passed away on September 22, 2023 unexpectedly in his sleep. Mike was born and raised in Independence, Missouri and was a graduate of the University of Missouri.

Mike was proud to be a Grammy winner and four-time Grammy nominee, a two-time CMA award winner, an IBMA award winner, a two-time ACM nominee and a multi-platinum, No. 1 hit songwriter and musician. Performing with his blues band at the Bluebird Café on Monday nights for over 30 years was one of his greatest joys.

Mike loved spending time with his family, fishing, and playing snooker with the “Knife Check” boys. He was known for his love of the Chicago Cubs and making people laugh with a good joke.

Mike is survived by the love of his life of almost 45 years, Janet Henderson and his beloved daughters, Lauren and Shannon Henderson of Nashville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Bonnie Henderson.

Visitation will be held in the sanctuary at Woodmont Christian Church on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 10am-12pm with a memorial service to follow.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to MusiCares at Musicares.org.
